RAFAEL BEJARANO, NORVSKY, WINNER: “In the beginning the pace was a little slow so I decided to get in closer. I didn’t want to stay too far back if they were going too slow. When I found my position I got some room in the stretch and just let him go. I was a little worried at the stretch because I had to move early at the three-eighths pole to get him close, then I needed to make another move at the top of the stretch. My horse had enough to keep going and he showed me a big kick.”

VICTOR ESPINOZA, LUCKY PRIMO, SECOND: “It’s a good race for him. Everything will work out. This horse has a big heart. I just got outrun. I guess the last 16th he struggled a little bit. The better horse won the race.”

DON WARREN, NORVSKY, WINNER: “It’s great to have the ‘B’ team win for us (referring to Acclamation, winner of five straight graded races, who currently is sidelined with a leg injury which forced him to miss the Breeders’ Cup). The horse is a deep closer but I just told Rafael (Bejarano) not to drop 15 lengths out of it like he sometimes does. Every little bit helps in a race like this.”
Asked what might be next: “Probably something at Hollywood Park and we’ll look at the Sunshine Millions here in January.”

NOTES: The winning owners are Bud and Judy Johnston of Ontario and Robert Riggio of Riverside.
