TYLER BAZE, GOTTA HAVE HER, WINNER: “She stumbled out of the gate and I just rode her with confidence. She’s really a nice filly and I was impressed with the way she ran last time. When she stumbled I just had to sit there and let her tell me what she wanted to do and point her in the right direction. Jenine (Sahadi) said don’t move until you get back on the grass, so I waited until we crossed. We hit the grass again, I hit her a few times and she just flew home. I have all the confidence in this filly; she’s just unbelievable to ride.”

GARRETT GOMEZ, TUSCAN EVENING, 7-10 FAVORITE, THIRD: “She ran the same race she has been running. The last couple of races, she’s been able to kind of scoot clear of some of them, coming down the hill a little more comfortable. Today, she had one on her hip the whole way (Reba Is Tops), kind of pushing her along . . . When I came across the dirt, she went with that other mare, but the other mare just quickened a little more than she could . . . But she ran a really good race.”

JENINE SAHADI, GOTTA HAVE HER, WINNER: “There’s always a concern (when asked about Gotta Have Her bobbling at the start). Coming out of the gate, she always does a little skip and a bobble. Three races ago, she lost a shoe coming out of the gate. I’m not sure where she’ll go next. She broke her maiden down the hill, and she won a classified allowance (down the hill). No plans for her next race. I’m savoring this moment.”

NOTES: Garrett Gomez needed one stakes win to tie the meet record of 19 shared by Laffit Pincay Jr. and Corey Nakatani. Gomez finished with 18. The winning owners are Richard and Sue Ann Masson of Los Angeles, who races as Green Lantern Stables, LLC.
