LA PUENTE STAKES QUOTES, SATURDAY, APRIL 11TH, 2009
TYLER BAZE, BATTLE OF HASTINGS, WINNER: “I was real wide going into the first turn, so I took back and saved about three lengths. Going to the far turn, I didn’t want to go five wide, so I stayed inside and tried to follow my cousin (Mike Baze, aboard Dover Street Art). We barely found a seam around the turn and there was a lot of bumping inside and outside. When I hit him left handed, he swapped leads and just took off. I’m looking forward to bigger and better things from him.”
JEFF MULLINS, BATTLE OF HASTINGS, WINNER: “The post (No. 12) is always a concern, but it was a pretty good run to the turn and there were a couple of scratches inside. The main thing is, Tyler (Baze) has a lot of faith in the horse, and he knew what to do . . . Tyler’s gotten to where he can control him now, and he’s gotten better and better, It worked out good. We’ll take it one step at a time (when asked what might be next).”
NOTES: Winning owner Michael House is from El Cajon, CA.
