SANTA ANA HANDICAP QUOTES, SUNDAY, MARCH 22ND, 2009
JOEL ROSARIO, BELMONT CAT, WINNER: “She’s a nice filly and she seemed like she was feeling really well today. She was pulling me a little going to the far turn, but she was pretty relaxed most of the way and that’s why she finished so well. I was a little worried when we were between horses late, but she really kicked it.”
JOHN SADLER, BELMONT CAT, WINNER: “She trained really, really well for her first race (in the U.S., last Dec. 3). I was a little disappointed last time, but there wasn’t much pace and she was up close. I think she wants to sit back and kick, so we really tried to emphasize that today in this race. Joel (Rosario) has been working her the last couple of works, and I just told him to wait with her. The other day (San Gorgonio, Jan. 4), she caught a paceless field and sat second, pulling hard. We just wanted to get her back off the pace, because she really has a nice punch if you get her back and make her wait. She’ll run a mile and a quarter over there (Hollywood Park). Nothing pressing (as far as a specific race)
NOTES: The winning owner is Richard Templer of Chicago, who races as Doubledown Stables, Inc.
