Always a Princess and Harmonious both worked over Santa Anita’s main track Sunday morning in preparation for likely starts in the Grade II, $150,000 La Caňada Stakes for older fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles a week from today.

Always a Princess went five furlongs in :58.60 for Bob Baffert, while Harmonious went the same distance in 1:00 for John Shirreffs.

Twirling Candy, with regular rider Joel Rosario up, worked seven furlongs on Santa Anita’s main track Sunday morning in 1:25, in preparation for next Saturday’s Grade II Strub Stakes for 4-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles.

SWITCH TO STRETCH OUT AFTER SANTA MONICA

Switch, impressive winner of the Grade I La Brea Stakes at seven furlongs on opening day, is likely to try two turns if she fares well in Sunday’s Grade I Santa Monica Stakes at seven furlongs, trainer John Sadler said.

“It just made sense for us to stick with this distance,” Sadler said in explaining why he opted for the Santa Monica.
