Bob Baffert said late Friday morning that Jaycito has been “battling a foot bruise, an abscess” from last week which could jeopardize his running in Saturday’s Santa Anita Derby.

Premier Pegasus enhanced his role as favorite for the Santa Anita Derby with a sizzling five- furlong workout Saturday morning at the 8 o’clock break on Santa Anita’s main track. The impressive winner of the San Felipe Stakes was timed in a bullet :59.20 under regular rider Alonso Quinonez.

Garrett Gomez has one significant omission on his otherwise impressive resume: a Kentucky Derby victory.

It’s every jockey’s fondest wish to win the Run for the Roses, and Gomez is no exception. He hopes to fill that void come May 7, when the 137th Kentucky Derby is run at Churchill Downs.
