ARCADIA, Calif. (Sept. 19, 2013)—Santa Anita Park, in partnership with America’s Best Racing and Breeders’ Cup Limited, has announced it will host its first-ever “College Scholarship Day” on Saturday, Sept. 28. Students from all California colleges will receive free admission upon presentation of a valid college ID, and be encouraged to sign up for a $1,000 college scholarship. Students will also receive free College Scholarship Day T-shirts upon registration.
In addition to the $1,000 college scholarship drawing, there will also be a drawing after each race for a free Breeders’ Cup gift package, which will include two tickets to the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Santa Anita on Friday, Nov. 1.
Student registration will be fast and easy, as America’s Best Racing brand ambassadors will be set up inside Santa Anita’s admission gate with a 45-foot streamliner bus equipped to register all participants for prizes and show students how to fully enjoy a day at the races.
“The college crowd is a demographic where most tracks traditionally do not spend much time or marketing money,” said America’s Best Racing ambassador John Cox. “Our goal is to attract college students to the racetrack, and leave a lasting impression that horse racing is fun and big events like this prove it. Hopefully that impression will make them want to come back.”
With free General Admission, students are also encouraged to experience KROQ’s “Party in the Infield” which features a craft beer festival and live music by Shiny Toy Guns and Lose Control.
Saturday, Sept. 28 is also billed as Breeders’ Cup Challenge Day at Santa Anita, as The Great Race Place will present five Grade I stakes, totaling $1.25 million in purses, in preparation for the two-day Breeders’ Cup on Nov. 1 & 2.
“College Scholarship Day will be a tremendous opportunity to get new, young faces to Santa Anita and allow them to experience just how exciting a day at the races can be,” added Cox.
Admission gates will open on Sept. 28 at 11 a.m., with first race post time at 1 p.m.
