JON WHITE, MICHELLE YU TO HOST SANTA ANITA SIMULCAST SIGNAL, TALENTED PAIR TO DEBUT DEC. 26, AS GREAT RACE PLACE OPENS FOR 76TH SEASON
ARCADIA, Calif. (Dec. 20, 2012)—Santa Anita Park has announced that effective opening day, Dec. 26, Michelle Yu and Jon White will be hosting Santa Anita’s award-winning simulcast television presentation. Yu, 30, and White, 58, bring a vast and varied array of experience to their respective jobs and will provide simulcast viewers with an in-depth and well articulated view of each race throughout Santa Anita’s 71-day winter/spring meeting. Following opening day, Yu and White will team on weekends.
White, who was employed in various capacities over a 24-year period with Daily Racing Form, signed on to work in television at Santa Anita in 1993, and became a key member of the track’s Eclipse Award-winning Broadcast team. He also serves as Santa Anita’s morning line maker and is one of the nation’s most highly respected handicappers.
Yu, who has extensive backstretch experience as an exercise rider, took on a new role at the recently concluded Autumn Meet, hosting popular “Where are Yu” segments at various locations throughout the track.
“Michelle Yu’s ability to connect with people and to relay her enthusiasm to our audience was very well received during the Autumn Meet,” said Santa Anita President and General Manager George Haines. “What many people may not know is that Michelle is also an accomplished horsewoman and teaming her up with Jon White and his years of expert opinions will provide our Santa Anita fans around the country with valuable insight as they wager on our races.”
In addition to horseracing, Yu is also involved as a sideline reporter covering high school football for Los Angeles-based Prime Ticket.
First post time on opening day is 12 noon. All fans attending will receive a beautiful 2013 wall calendar, free with paid admission. For more information, visit www.santaanita.com, or call (626) 574-RACE.
