ARCADIA, Calif. (Nov. 1, 2012)—Along with her husband Mike, Amy Phipps, of Evansville, Indiana made the 1,734 mile trek to Santa Anita to attend the two-day Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Santa Anita on Friday and Saturday and was in line to make a bet on Thursday when she heard an announcement over the public address system.

“I heard the promo about a CashCall Contest,” said Amy Phipps. “I went to Patron Services and the lady gave me a form to fill out and told me where to take it. When I dropped it off, the lady said ‘Good luck.’ And I said, ‘I’m gonna win it’.”

And win it she did, as the self-described “Indiana Girl” collected a cool $6,400 after the eighth race was declared official, becoming the ninth winner of CashCall’s $1,000 to Win Contest.

When asked why she selected the eventual winner, Tiz Dynamic, who was ridden by Alex Bisono, she responded: “The sire, Tiznow. And the fact that he’s Kentucky-bred. A friend of ours hit a big Pick Six when Tiznow won the (2000) Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs and we love him.”

Tiz Dynamic, trained by Gary Stute, was 9-2 on the morning line and paid $12.80 to win.

“We come here to Santa Anita every time you have the Breeders’ Cup,” said Mike Phipps. “We’ll save this money for another horse racing trip.”

Santa Anita’s popular CashCall Contest is free to enter for all on-track attendees 18 and over. Entries must be filled out and submitted to the Thoroughbreds Center prior to seventh race post time.

The CashCall $1,000 to Win Contest will be suspended due to the Breeders’ Cup on Friday and Saturday and will be back in effect on Sunday, which is closing day of Santa Anita’s 24-day Autumn Meet.

Admission gates open at Santa Anita on Friday at 9 a.m. First post time is 11:15 a.m. For more information, visit www.santaanita.com.
