POMONA MAN MAKES CASHCALL IN FINAL RACE, TABS TALAMO ON EVEN-MONEY FAVORITE AND WINS $2,000

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 18, 2012)—Lenwood McBean, a 66-year-old retired nurse who resides in Pomona, entered Thursday’s CashCall $1,000 to Win Contest at Santa Anita and ended his day with a win ticket good for $2,000.

McBean, who was one of 10 finalists in CashCall’s daily contest, had his name drawn following the seventh race and he selected Disarm and Joe Talamo to win the nightcap. Dispatched as the even money favorite, Disarm won by one length and paid $4.00 to win. This provided leading rider Talamo with his fourth win on the card.

“I come out here quite often,” said McBean. “I play whenever I come and I like Joe Talamo.” When asked if he had plans for his winnings, McBean replied, “I’m going to have some dental work done.”

The CashCall $1,000 to Win Contest is free to enter for all on-track attendees each racing day. Entry blanks are available at admission gates and are to be submitted at the Thoroughbreds Club Center on the main floor of the track’s grandstand.

First post time for an eight-race card on Friday is 1 p.m.
