PALMDALE MAN BAGS $4,700 AS HE TAKES CASHCALL $1,000 TO WIN BET CONTEST AT SANTA ANITA ON MONDAY
ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 8, 2012)—The number 1,000 was the order of the day in Santa Anita’s nightcap, as veteran trainer David Hofmans picked up his 1,000th career win with first-time starter Sultry Season and David Hall, a 29-year-old resident of Palmdale, won $4,700 as a result of selecting Hofmans’ horse at odds of 7-2 and winning Santa Anita’s CashCall $1,000 win-bet contest.
Hall, who filled out a CashCall entry blank earlier in the day, said that he works as a “brewer” at Anheuser Busch’s Van Nuys brewery.
Hall had his name called following the seventh race and watched the 10th and final from the Santa Anita winner’s circle.
“I’m a really big fan of first time starters and I liked the jock,” said Hall. “It paid off and this is really great.”
In addition to Hofmans’ milestone and Hall’s jackpot, Sultry Song provided Joe Talamo with his third win of day and his meet-leading 14th victory, two clear of runnerup Rafael Bejarano.
Santa Anita will be dark on Tuesday and Wednesday. Live racing returns to The Great Race Place Thursday through Sunday, with first post time at 1 p.m.
