HRTV FILM FESTIVAL WINNERS TO BE ANNOUNCED SUNDAY, FAN’S FAVORITE BALLOTING GENERATES 77,824 VOTES
ARCADIA, Calif. (April 21, 2012)—Winners in HRTV’s inaugural “A Day at the Races” Film Festival will be announced in the Santa Anita winner’s circle following Sunday’s seventh race.
The Fan’s Favorite Award has generated considerable interest, evidenced by the 77,824 on-line votes cast through www.hrtv.com.
A total of 25 short subject, non-fiction films have been submitted and are under review. All submissions are a maximum of five minutes in length and all were shot at Santa Anita.
“The quality of films submitted is remarkable,” said HRTV President Scott Daruty. “All of those who participated in this should be proud of themselves and we thank them all for helping us to make this a huge success. We’re looking forward to honoring our winners on Sunday and we hope next year’s festival will be even better.”
In addition to the Fan’s Favorite Award, there will also be a Judges’ Prize, which will be determined by a distinguished panel of horseracing and entertainment professionals.
“We’ve all been amazed at the overall depth and scope of each submission,” said Santa Anita Vice President of Sales and Marketing Chris Quinn. “Many of these folks are up and coming producers and directors and it’s great to know that they’ll all carry this Film Festival experience with them as they develop and grow in the entertainment industry.
“Going back to our founding in 1934, Santa Anita has had a rich tradition with Hollywood and we hope this project will enable us to build upon that relationship in the future.”
Joining Quinn on the Judges’ Prize selection committee are: World renowned film star and current CHRB board member Bo Derek, top-rated Los Angeles radio personality Tim Conway Jr., retired Hall of Fame jockey and current HRTV and NBC racing analyst Gary Stevens, Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith, HRTV Director of Brand Management Carolyn Conley, Santa Anita C.E.O. Mark Verge, HRTV Executive Producer Amy Zimmerman, Santa Anita President George Haines, and Santa Anita Director of Community Services and Special Projects, Pete Siberell.
Both the Fan’s Favorite Award and Judges’ Prize will reward the winners with a $10,000 first-place prize. Both awards will pay $5,000 to runner up and $3,000 to the third-place finisher.
Santa Anita will present a 10-race card on Sunday, with first post time at 12:30 p.m.
