ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 25, 2012)—Santa Anita Park has announced it will host a $15,000, two-day Double-Down Challenge handicapping tournament on March 10 & 11. In addition to a first-place cash prize of $10,000, the tournament which will be limited to 80 entries, will also offer four slots to the 2013 DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas and one entry in the $400,000 Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge.

Each entrant will put up a $1,000 live-money bankroll and pay a $500 entry fee. There is a maximum of two entries per person. The “double-down” component to the tournament allows each entrant the opportunity to re-buy an additional entry prior to Santa Anita’s first race on Sunday, March 11.

“We are pleased to introduce a new handicapping contest that gives players a chance to qualify for the DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship and the Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge at Santa Anita, all in the same contest,” said Nate Newby, Santa Anita’s Director of Marketing. “We discussed the format with 20 of our regular contest players from around the country and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.”

The top four Double-Down finishers will automatically qualify for the 2013 $2 million DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship and will share a $15,000 prize pool.

The second-place finisher in Santa Anita’s Double-Down Challenge will also win a cash prize of $3,000 and the third-place finisher will take home $2,000.
