ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 28, 2011)—For the second time in the past four years, upstart race caller John Lies (pronounced Lees) will deputize for legendary Santa Anita announcer Trevor Denman on Nov. 3, 4 &5, as Denman will be at Churchill Downs to once again serve as the voice of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships on ESPN and ABC.

Lies, 34, filled in for Denman at Santa Anita during the 2007 Breeders’ Cup at Monmouth Park in 2007 and has been the regular track announcer at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas for the past seven years. He has also served as Del Mar’s intertrack television host for the past five summers.

“It was the thrill of a lifetime when I filled in for Trevor four years ago and it’ll be a dead heat thrill this time,” said Lies, a southern California native and the son of a former trainer. “Trevor is without question the gold standard for track announcers in this country and to be able to fill-in for him is truly an honor.”

Denman, who has been employed at Santa Anita since 1983, will be calling the World Championships for the sixth time and will be making his 21st annual Breeders’ Cup television appearance.

“In Trevor, we feel as though we have the best announcer in the world and the fact that he has become the voice of the Breeders’ Cup speaks for itself,” said Santa Anita President George Haines. “It’s an honor for Santa Anita to have Trevor in this role and we’re very pleased to have John Lies back here to pinch hit for him this year. John did a great job for us in 2007 and we expect to have a great week with him here again.”

The two-day Breeders’ Cup World Championships will be held Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5. Admission gates at Santa Anita will open on Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. and on Nov. 5 at 8 a.m.
