JOCKEYS FLORES & SUTHERLAND TO ENTER DERBY DAY 5K, SANTA ANITA RUN AND WALK SCHEDULED THIS SATURDAY, PRE REGISTRATION AVAILABLE AT WESTFIELD MALL

ARCADIA, Calif. (April 5, 2011)—Top jockeys David Flores and Chantal Sutherland, who recently became the first female jockey to ever win the prestigious Santa Anita Handicap, will lend their talents to Santa Anita Park’s traditional Derby Day 5K Walk and Run this Saturday.

A total of three different races will be offered on Saturday, with the Masters (for those over the age of 40) heat scheduled to start at 7:45 a.m., the Open (all others), at 8:15 a.m., and the Walk (for those who choose to walk only) at 8:20 a.m. Flores and Sutherland, who frequently work horses in the early morning hours, have chosen to run in the Open race, which gets underway at 8:15 a.m.

Pre registration will be offered Tuesday through Friday at several locations, including the Westfield Shopping Mall, which adjoins Santa Anita.

Those wishing to participate can register at Run With Us, located at 235 N. Lake Ave., Pasadena. Run With Us will be available to pre register participants Tuesday through Friday. They can be reached at (626) 568-3331.

The Westfield Santa Anita shopping mall will also provide interested parties an opportunity to pre register on Friday, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., in the Promenade area on the southwest side of the mall.

Race day registration will be offered in Santa Anita’s southwest parking lot Saturday, beginning at 6:30 a.m. Race day registration will be available until 8:15 a.m.

All Derby Day 5K Run and Walk participants will receive free parking and admission for the entire day along with a Santa Anita Derby T Shirt. Additionally, all participants will be given a racing program and a pass good for future Club House admission.

Coffee, tea and a full breakfast menu will be available Saturday morning until 10 a.m. at Santa Anita’s popular Clockers’ Corner, located at the top of the stretch. Admission is free and those wishing to visit Clockers’ Corner on Saturday are urged to enter at Santa Anita’s Gate 5, located at the confluence of Colorado Place and Huntington Drive, on the track’s east end.

Santa Anita will present the 74th running of the Grade I, $1 million Santa Anita Derby on Saturday. Special early first post time is scheduled for 12 noon.
