LUNAR MIST CREATES PICK SIX FOG, CARRYOVER OF $73,940, TOTAL POOL ON FRIDAY EXPECTED TO EXCEED $500,000
ARCADIA, Calif. (March 31, 2011)—With longshot Lunar Mist taking Santa Anita’s allowance feature at odds of 18-1, no one was able to tab six winners in Thursday’s Pick Six, resulting in a carryover into Friday of $73,940. It is expected the total Pick Six Pool on Friday will exceed $500,000.
Thursday’s Pick Six got underway in race three, which was won by Ruby Lane, who returned $10.80 to win with Joel Rosario aloft. Owned by Briere, Capestro, Gervasi and partners, the 5-year-old Kentucky-bred mare by The Cliff’s Edge is trained by Paula Capestro.
Race four went to Emily Pearl, who paid $16.20 to win. Owned by Gary or Cecil Barber, Emily Pearl was ridden by Victor Espinoza and is trained by Peter Miller. She is a 3-year-old California-bred filly by Game Plan.
The fifth race was won by Temple’s Door, who was ridden by Martin Garcia and paid $12.40 to win. The 3-year-old Kentucky-bred colt is owned by I.E. Truman and is conditioned by Carla Gaines.
Legal Separation won the sixth race under Joel Rosario, and paid $7.20 to win. Owned by Curt and Lila Lanning, LLC, the 4-year-old California-bred gelding by Jackpot is trained by Ed Moger.
Lunar Mist, with Martin Pedroza up, took the seventh race, a $59,000 second condition allowance for older fillies and mares. Lunar mist paid $39.00 to win for owner Jerry Jamgotchian and trainer Eric Reed. Lunar Mist is a 4-year-old Virginia-bred filly by Malibu Moon.
Race eight produced the shortest priced winner of the afternoon, but courtesy of Lunar Mist, the carryover was a fait accompli.
Tuesdays With P returned $4.80 in the nightcap and was ridden by Martin Garcia for trainer Bob Baffert and owners Summit Racing, LLC, or George Bolton.
Friday’s Pick Six will cover races three through eight. First post time is 1 p.m. All fans attending on Santa Anita’s remaining Fridays will receive free General Admission and box seats, while they last.
