RAINY-DAY PICK SIX CARRYOVER OF $85,150 FOR SATURDAY, SANTA ANITA POOL COULD REACH HALF-MILLION SUPER HIGH 5 CARRIES AS WELL, WITH $40,842 AT STAKE
ARCADIA, Calif. (Feb. 5, 2010)—A Pick Six carryover of $85,150 will await fans on Saturday at Santa Anita, as no one correctly tabbed six winners on a wet, wintry Friday. It is expected that Saturday’s total pool could exceed $500,000.
There is also a Super High 5 carryover into Saturday of $40,842.
Friday’s Pick Six got off to a formful start, as Lady Alex proved much best under leading rider Rafael Bejarano, winning by five lengths. Trained by John Sadler and owned by Tom Mankiewicz, the 4-year-old California-bred filly by Benchmark paid $4.00 to win.
Race four went to Afleet Magic, who paid $8.20 to win. Ridden by Joe Talamo and trained by Bob Hess Jr., the 4-year-old New York-bred gelding by Northern Afleet is owned by Schroeder Farms, LLC.
Friday’s fifth went to longshot Get Off the Sugar, who was off at 16-1. Ridden by Martin Garcia, the 7-year-old Kentucky-bred gelding by Old Trieste was collared at the top of the lane and won in game fashion by a head. He returned $34.20 to win and is trained by Jorge Alcala, who is also the part owner along with Malanche.
Boulder Creek, with Victor Espinoza up, won the sixth and paid $11.40 to win. Owned by West Point Thoroughbreds and trained by Craig Dollase, Boulder Creek is a 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by Tapit.
The seventh was taken by Mobilized, which provided Bejarano with his third win of the day and his 36th victory of the meet. Mobilized paid $9.60 to win. A 4-year-old California-bred colt by Soul of the Matter, he is owned by his breeder, Robert Reseigne and is trained by Gary Mandella.
The eighth race was won by Candy Coat, under Silvio Amador. Trained by Clifford Sise, the 4-year-old Kentucky-bred gelding by Candy Ride is owned by Halo Farms or Three Sisters Thoroughbreds.
Santa Anita offers a 10-race card Saturday, with the Pick Six covering races five through 10. First post time is 12:30 p.m.
