GENERAL CONSENSUS SCORES SECOND WIN IN ROW IN SANTA ANITA TURF FEATURE

ARCADIA, Calif. (Feb. 12, 2009) – With jockey Alex Solis generating a dash for home on the far turn, General Consensus bolted to the front and reached the wire three-quarters-of-length ahead of Shes a Real Keeper Thursday in Santa Anita’s feature race, a $55,920 first condition allowance event for fillies and mares at one-mile on turf.

Sent off at odds of 7-1, the victorious 4-year-old filly, a $400,000 sales purchase as a yearling, registered her second straight win over the course and at the same distance after going winless in her first six starts. The final time over a “firm” turf course was 1:36.95.

A Kentucky-bred daughter of Giant’s Causeway trained by Paddy Gallagher, General Consensus demonstrated her versatility when tracking the early pace on Thursday after having come from far behind to score her maiden win.

Comeback Queen, ridden by Rafael Bejarano, ran on for third, three-quarters of a length behind fast-closing runner-up Shes a Real Keeper and jockey Joe Talamo in the field of seven. Grace Anatomy, the 8-5 favorite, was never a serious factor while finishing fourth.

The winner paid $16, $6.80 and $4.60. The prices on Shes a Real Keeper were $5.40 and $3.80 while Comeback Queen paid $3.60 to show.

The winning purse of $31,200 increased the career earnings of General Consensus to $89,914 for Edmond and Sharon Hudon from an overall mark of 2-2-1 in eight races.

Racing continues Friday when Santa Anita offers free general admission with box seats offered at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Hot dogs, beer, sodas and pop corn sell for $1.

On Saturday, Santa Anita begins an extended three-day weekend of racing with a total of five graded stakes races being presented through Monday, Presidents’ Day. -30-
