UNDEFEATED BREEDERS’ CUP CHAMPION FILLY SONGBIRD TO WORK FIVE FURLONGS FRIDAY AT SANTA ANITA AT 12 NOON

ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 7, 2016)–Undefeated Songbird, a 5 ¾ length winner of the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies in her most recent start Oct. 31 at Keeneland, will work five furlongs at    12 noon on Friday at Santa Anita.

Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer and owned by Fox Hill Farms, Inc., Songbird will be handled in the five furlong breeze by regular rider Mike Smith. A Kentucky-bred daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, Songbird, who used Santa Anita’s Grade I Chandelier Stakes on Sept. 26 as a steppingstone to her Breeders’ Cup triumph, is undefeated in four starts. With earnings of $1,502,000, she is considered an odds-on favorite to be crowned America’s Eclipse Champion 2-year-old filly later this month.

Songbird is scheduled to make her 3-year-old debut in Santa Anita’s Grade II, one mile Las Virgenes Stakes Feb. 6. Her five furlong workout on Friday will be telecast live over Santa Anita’s simulcast network and will be accompanied by track announcer Michael Wrona’s running description from the time she comes onto the main track via the quarter mile chute at the top of the stretch.

First post time on Friday is at 1 p.m. Admission gates open at 11 a.m.
