TWO-TIME ECLIPSE CHAMP BEHOLDER GALLOPS STRONG, WILL WORK THURSDAY MORNING AT SANTA ANITA FOR MANDELLA

SUPERSTAR MARE SCHEDULED TO WORK AT 6:30 A.M. TOMORROW, PUBLIC IS INVITED

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 14, 2015)–In a prelude to what will be her final local Breeders’ Cup Classic workout Thursday morning, two-time Eclipse Champion Beholder continued to prepare for her likely epic showdown with Triple Crown Champion American Pharoah today at Santa Anita, as the 5-year-old Henny Hughes mare came on the main track shortly after 7:15 a.m.

With trainer Richard Mandella looking on from the track’s Grandstand apron, Beholder jogged  straight off from the quarter mile chute under regular exercise rider Janeen Painter and, according to Xpressbet’s Millie Ball, the superstar mare then cantered about three quarters of a mile prior to settling into a strong gallop from the top of the stretch into the Club House turn.

An 8 ¼ length winner versus males in the Grade I, mile and a quarter Pacific Classic Aug. 22, Beholder is scheduled to breeze Thursday at 6:30 a.m., which will be her fifth work since her big win at Del Mar and will follow a fluid five furlong drill in 1:02.00 “breezing” here on Oct. 9.

Tomorrow’s work will be Beholder’s final local move in advance of the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Oct. 31 at Keeneland, as Mandella has her booked for a flight to Kentucky this Monday, Oct. 19.
