ACTION-PACKED DAY WILL ALSO INCLUDE FIVE GRADE I, BREEDERS’ CUP ‘WIN & YOU’RE IN’ STAKES
ARCADIA, Calif. (Sept. 19, 2014)–The NHL Champion Los Angeles Kings, led by their coach, Darryl Sutter, will be an integral part of Breeders’ Cup Challenge Day at Santa Anita on Saturday, Sept. 27, as they will appear along with one of the most coveted awards in all of sports–the Stanley Cup trophy, which they won for the second time in three years this past June 13.
An Alberta, Canada native, Sutter is expected to be joined by Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Miller, broadcasters Nick Nickson, Daryl Evans, Jim Fox and other members of the Kings’ family.
“This is going to be a tremendous day for racing here at Santa Anita,” said Tom Ludt, Santa Anita Park President. “We are honored to be able to host Coach Sutter and everyone involved with this incredible group of Stanley Cup Champions and we’re looking forward to having them enjoy a great day of racing.
“Additionally, the Stanley Cup itself will be on display in the Winner’s Circle from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., which is a great opportunity for us to showcase the Cup here and to share it with a national television audience.”
The Kings, who won their first Stanley Cup in 2012, took this year’s Cup in five games, defeating the New York Rangers in a marathon double overtime victory, 3-2, on June 13.
There will be a special early first post time on Sept. 27 of 12:30 p.m. Admission gates open at 10:30 a.m. Undefeated Shared Belief, currently America’s top rated 3-year-old, is expected to run in the day’s marquee event, the Grade I Awesome Again Stakes, for 3-year-olds and up, at 1 1/8 miles.
