ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 28, 2016)–With Santa Anita’s temporary rail set at 20 feet, Socialized made every pole a winning one under Mike Smith as she prevailed over nine rivals to take Thursday’s $58,000 allowance feature by a half length while covering 1 1/8 miles on turf in 1:48.90.
Trained by Clifford Sise, Socialized broke from post position two and rated kindly under Smith, but was collared and passed approaching the quarter pole by eventual runner-up Moon Over Paris, who made an eye catching run around the far turn under Flavien Prat. Smith, however, had plenty in reserve and Socialized re-rallied at the rail for a convincing win.
Off at 6-1, she paid $15.20, $7.20 and $5.40. A 4-year-old Kentucky-bred filly by City Zip, Socialized, who is owned by her breeders, Martin Wygod and John Spohler, notched her second win from eight starts. With the winner’s share of $34,800, she increased her earnings to $82,400. Moon Over Paris, who broke from post nine, was a close third heading into the far turn and proved second best, finishing a 1 ¼ lengths in front of a fast-finishing Hiking. A first time Lasix user, Moon Over Paris was off at 7-1 and paid $9.60 and $6.00.
Ridden by Gary Stevens, Hiking, who broke from the far outside, was taken in hand going to the Club House turn, where she was three-wide and rallied from seventh position turning for home in a good effort. Off at 14-1, she paid $7.40 to show.
