ARCADIA, Calif. (Dec. 11, 2017)–For the 44th consecutive year, Santa Anita Park and the California Thoroughbred Trainers (CTT) will host an annual Christmas Party for backstretch workers and their families on Tuesday in Santa Anita’s spacious Club House.
With jockeys, trainers and executives joining in, hundreds of toys and holiday meals will be provided to the families of those who toil as grooms, hot walkers and exercise riders, beginning at 12 noon tomorrow on the Club House main floor.
“This is an event that all of our backstretch families look forward to each year,” said Santa Anita Director of Community Services and Special Projects, Pete Siberell. “And it seems to be coming at the right time, with the recent fire displacing a good many workers at San Luis Rey Downs Training Center, which is part of The Stronach Group and Santa Anita family. “Because so many from our backstretch community have been impacted, this is one small way of letting everyone know, especially the young children, that things are getting back to normal and everything will be okay.”
Siberell also noted that Santa Anita has contracted with a charity group, Motor4Toys, in order to provide popular toys that were acquired from a charity toy drive last week. Additionally, the CTT will provide holiday music and “fun things” (arts and crafts, and a visit from Santa Claus) for all youngsters in attendance.
Santa Anita will open for its traditional Winter Meet the day after Christmas, Tuesday, Dec. 26. First post time is at 12 noon. For more information, please visit santaanita.com or call (626) 574-RACE.
