SANTA ANITA BREEDERS’ CUP ATTENDANCE & HANDLE UP SIGNIFICANTLY AS GREAT RACE PLACE HOSTS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR RECORD NINTH TIME

ARCADIA, Calif. (Nov. 8, 2016)–Hosting the two-day Breeders’ Cup World Championships for a record ninth time on Nov. 4 & 5, Santa Anita Park registered significant increases in on-track attendance and all forms wagering.

Santa Anita’s all sources combined pari-mutuel handle for Breeders’ Cup Friday and Saturday was $159,991,831, a 3.2 percent increase over the 2014 Breeders’ Cup at The Great Race Place. On-track handle over both days was $21,241,095, a 3.1 percent increase over 2014.

Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) has become an increasingly popular and convenient wagering platform for players who participate both on and off track. Accordingly, Breeders’ Cup ADW showed major increases–with a 24 percent jump on Friday and a 17 percent increase on Saturday, when compared to 2014.

The two-day Breeders’ Cup attendance total for Friday and Saturday was 118,574, the highest in Breeders’ Cup history. With a record Friday crowd of 45,763, track officials, in conjunction with the city of Arcadia, procured four additional off-site parking locations in anticipation of what turned out to be a massive crowd of 72,811 on Classic Day, the largest on-track crowd at Santa Anita in 31 years.

Additionally, Arcadia’s increasingly popular Metro Gold Line Station provided a new option to Breeders’ Cup attendees as an estimated 8,000 fans utilized Santa Anita and local hotel shuttle services over the two-day event.

Along with the Metro and hotel shuttles, Uber and Lyft each had dedicated lanes and drop off locations to accommodate an estimated 4,000 race-goers.
