ARCADIA, Calif. (Feb. 22, 2015)–Sunday’s Pick 5 payout at Santa Anita has been delayed due to a Sportech tote malfunction which was caused by a late change in racing surface in race four, the fourth leg in Santa Anita’s popular Pick 5 wager. Due to heavy rain during the second race, Sunday’s fourth race was moved from the downhill turf course to the main track.
According to CHRB rule 1976.9, subsection “N,” once a wager such as the Pick 5 is underway, as was the case Sunday, the race in which the surface change occurs is adjudged to have all starters declared winners.
Due to the fact Sunday’s fourth race was deemed an “all winners” contest, the pari-mutuel calculations for the Pick 5 were dramatically altered, resulting in an apparent software issue with Sportech. As of 6:00 p.m., PST, the Pick 5 pari-mutuel payoff was still not available. As soon as the Pick 5 payoff is provided by Sportech, it will be posted at santaanita.com.
