PACIFIC HEAT, PATRIOTIC DIAMOND AND ROO’S VALENTINE HEAD FIELD OF 10 IN SATURDAY’S $200,000 EVENING JEWEL STAKES FOR CALIFORNIA-BRED OR SIRED 3-YEAR-OLD FILLIES

 

EVENING JEWEL IS PART OF LUCRATIVE GOLDEN STATE SERIES

 

ARCADIA, Calif. (April 6, 2016)–Stakes winners Pacific Heat, Patriotic Diamond and Roo’s Valentine will all return to dirt and cut back in distance as they head a field of 10 in Saturday’s $200,000 Evening Jewel Stakes for California bred or sired 3-year-old fillies going six and half furlongs on the main track. Part of the lucrative Golden State Series, the Evening Jewel will be run for the fifth consecutive year.

All three fillies ran in state-bred turf stakes going a mile over a surface deemed ‘good’ in their last outing; Pacific Heat in the China Doll Stakes at Santa Anita March 12 and both Patriotic Diamond and Roo’s Valentine in the Cal Cup Oaks on Jan. 30.

PACIFIC HEAT- Trained by Peter Eurton, this filly by Unusual Heat was bought for $175,000 at the Barretts limited October 2014 yearling sale, and has had high expectations placed on her ever since. A resounding winner of a maiden special weight at Los Alamitos in late September by 13 ½ lengths at first asking, Pacific Heat went on win the Golden State Juvenile Fillies Stakes at Del Mar Oct. 29. Her two most recent outings have been at a mile on the grass, resulting in a win in the Cal Cup Oaks Jan. 30 and most recently a fourth after leading throughout in the China Doll Stakes March 12. Owned by Sharon Alesia, Mike Burns, Ciaglia Racing, LLC and Taylor Legan, she is 5-3-0-0 overall with $256,280 in earnings.

PATRIOTIC DIAMOND – Trained by Patrick Biancone and owned by Diamond 100 Racing Club, LLC, this filly by Hat Trick last ran a game second to Pacific Heat in the Cal Cup Oaks on the turf but was a winner at six furlongs on the main track at Del Mar in the Generous Portion Stakes on Aug. 28, 2015. Sixth in the Grade I Starlet at Los Alamitos in December, her most recent work was a bullet 47 flat at Santa Anita on April 5. She will gain a new rider in Abel Lezcano Saturday and is 6-2-2-1 overall with $191,550 in earnings.

ROO’S VALENTINE – Prior to a sixth place finish in the Cal Cup Oaks, this filly by Vronsky out of the Cindago mare, Black Valentine had never run out of the money. With a win on Nov. 5 in a one-mile turf maiden special weight, she followed that up with half-length score in the $100,000 Soviet Problem Stakes at Los Alamitos Dec. 5. Roo’s Valentine will retain the services of Martin Pedroza. She is 6-2-1-2 overall with earnings of $120,240.
