ARCADIA, Calif. (June 5, 2015)–Ridden by Drayden Van Dyke, longshot Diamond Stilettos kept favored Royal Temptress bottled up behind pacesetter One More long enough to take Friday’s $60,000 allowance feature by a half length while covering 1 1/8 miles on turf in 1:51.55.
Breaking from post two in a field of six fillies and mares three and up, Diamond Stelletos, who is trained by Doug O’Neill, sat a close second through fractions of 23.99, 50.13, 1:15.55 and 1:39.75 while Royal Temptress, with Flavien Prat up, saved ground at the rail while sitting fourth and was unable to swing out for room until the sixteenth pole.
“We got a perfect trip,” said Van Dyke. “I knew he (Prat) was in behind me turning for home, so I just held my position and made him come around. It worked out.”
Off at 6-1, Diamond Stilettos paid $15.40, $6.00 and $3.00. A 4-year-old Irish-bred filly, she’s owned by Cspelo, House and Keh and picked up her third win in her 10th career start. With the winner’s share of $36,000, Diamond Stilettos nearly doubled her career earnings to $75,641.
Royal Temptress, who finished a head in front of O’Neill’s other horse, One More, was off at 2-1 and paid $3.60 and $2.10.
Ridden by Mario Gutierrez, One More was the second choice at 2-1 and paid $2.20 to show.
