JOCKEY KENT DESORMEAUX KICKED BY HORSE & TRANSPORTED TO NEARBY ARCADIA METHODIST HOSPITAL FOR EXAMINATION

ARCADIA, Calif. (Sept. 28, 2014)–Hall of Fame jockey Kent Desormeaux was unseated in post parade shortly after coming onto Santa Anita’s main track for Sunday’s eighth race and was subsequently kicked in his chest and transported by ambulance to nearby Arcadia Methodist Hospital.

Desormeaux, 44, has enjoyed a career resurgence since returning to Southern California on a full-time basis this past May. He had three wins earlier on the card and as such, is tied for second in the newly begun Autumn Meet rider standings with Martin Pedroza and Joe Talamo.

Desormeaux was aboard 2-year-old filly first time starter She’s a Big Winner when she reared and unseated him. At that point, Desormeaux got to his feet in an apparent attempt to remount the filly when she kicked him violently with a hind leg–causing him to reel backwards approximately 10 feet.
