ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 6, 2015) — A winner of two turf stakes since October, trainer Janet Armstrong’s Dressed in Hermes will attempt to win the Grade III, $100,000 Sham Stakes for 3-year-olds going a mile on the main track Saturday at Santa Anita.
Though Dressed in Hermes has yet to win over natural dirt, the gelding by Hat Trick out of the Elusive Quality mare Elusive Fashion has two wins at the Sham distance. Winner of the $100,000 Zuma Beach Stakes at Santa Anita on Oct. 10 Dressed in Hermes was then fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf on Oct. 30 over a yielding turf at Keeneland and most recently, won the Grade III Cecil B. DeMille Stakes at Del Mar on Nov. 29.
Owned by Budget Stable, Dressed in Hermes will break from the number two post position and will have jockey Mike Smith riding back. He is 5-2-0-1 overall with earnings of $162,600.
Doug O’Neill’s Found Money, the most experienced in the field with seven lifetime starts, has run in six consecutive stakes races since breaking his maiden at first asking on May 15 at Santa Anita. The colt by Square Eddie went on to win the Santa Anita Juvenile Stakes on June 21 before running fifth to his undefeated stablemate Nyquist in the Grade II Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar on Aug. 8. Found Money followed that effort with a pair of seconds; in the I’m Smokin Stakes on Sept. 4 and the Golden State Juvenile Stakes Oct. 30, both at Del Mar. After running a distant fourth to Exaggerator in the Grade III Delta Downs Jackpot in Louisiana on Nov. 21 Found Money returned to California to win the one mile King Glorious stakes by 1 ¼ lengths at Los Alamitos on Dec. 12.
