ONE MILE TURF EVENT FOR OLDER HORSES WAS ORIGINALLY SET FOR APRIL 8
ARCADIA, Calif. (April 2, 2016)–Santa Anita Park has announced that the Grade III, $100,000 Thunder Road Stakes, for older horses at one mile on turf, will be run as part of a blockbuster card on Santa Anita Derby Day, Saturday, April 9.
Originally scheduled to be run on Friday, April 8, the Thunder Road has been moved back a day following consultation with all nominees and local horsemen.
“After consulting with the connections of all of those horses nominated and with the TOC (Thoroughbred Owners of California), we have all agreed that the Thunder Road will now be an important part of what we hope is a tremendous day here on Saturday,” said Rick Hammerle, Santa Anita Vice President, Racing and Racing Secretary.
In addition to the Grade I, $1 million Santa Anita Derby, the Thunder Road will now join the Grade I Santa Anita Oaks, the Grade III Providencia Stakes and two Cal-bred stakes, the Echo Eddie and the Evening Jewel.
First post time on Santa Anita Derby Day, April 9, will be early, at 12 noon. Admission gates will open at 10 a.m.
