TWO DAY CARRYOVER KEYS TOTAL PICK SIX POOL OF OVER $1 MILLION, 57 WINNING TICKETS EACH PAY $11,566.40
ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 16, 2015)–Favored Chaulk O Lattey went to the front and never relinquished the advantage as she scored by a neck under Rafael Bejarano in Friday’s $55,000 allowance feature run at one mile over the Santa Anita turf. Trained by Richard Baltas, Chaulk O Lattey got the distance in 1:37.09 while just prevailing over a fast finishing Rattataptap.
Off at even money in a field of five fillies and mares three and up, Chaulk O Lattey paid $4.20, $2.60 and $2.20.
“Well, nobody wanted the lead and she has a lot of natural speed, so with the rails out (15 feet), I was happy down the backside,” said Baltas. “I felt comfortable that she was going to get an easy lead after that. When the rails are out, the speed is usually better.”
Idle since a close second in the Solana Beach Handicap at Del Mar Aug. 16, Chaulk O Lattey, a 4-year-old California-bred filly by Sillic, got her fourth win from nine starts. Bred by Nadine Anderson and owned by Brazeau Thoroughbred Farms, L.P. and Little Red Feather Racing, Chaulk O Lattey picked up $42,900 for the win, increasing her earnings to $217,848.
Last early, Rattataptap, who was ridden by Tyler Baze, was off at 2-1 and paid $2.80 and $2.40.
A close third at the rail into and around the far turn under Martin Garcia, Causeway Carolyn kept to her task through the drive but never threatened the winner. Off at 5-1, she paid $2.80 to show.
With a two-day Pick Six carryover of $195,894 fueling the pari-mutuel fires, a whopping $865,252 in “new money” was wagered prior to third race post time, creating a total Pick Six pool on Friday of $1,061,146. There were 57 winning tickets, each worth $11,566.40.
First post time for a nine-race card on Saturday is at 1 p.m. Admission gates open at 11 a.m.
