HER EMMYNENCY PROMINENT IN WIDE OPEN $100,000 SURFER GIRL STAKES SUNDAY AT SANTA ANITA; FIELD OF 12 JUVENILE FILLIES TO GO MILE ON TURF

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 2, 2014)–A close second in the Grade I Del Mar Debutante Aug. 30, trainer Mike Stidham’s Her Emmynency figures prominently at one mile on turf in a wide-open field of 12 juvenile fillies set to go in Sunday’s $100,000 Surfer Girl Stakes at Santa Anita.

A Kentucky-bred daughter of Successful Appeal, Her Emmynency was attentive to the pace in the seven furlong Debutante and succumbed late by just a neck in a game effort. A first-out winner on Del Mar’s Polytrack Aug. 2, the Surfer Girl will be her first attempt around two turns and on grass. She retains the services of Joe Talamo.

Trainer Doug O’Neill’s Irish-bred She’s Complete is the logical choice in the Surfer Girl, as she comes off a solid half length win at 8-5 in Del Mar’s one mile turf Juvenile Fillies Stakes on Sept. 1, and as such, is the lone stakes winner in the field.

Competitive in large fields on two occasions this past spring in Ireland, she made her U.S. debut for O’Neill on Aug. 13, running a sharp second in a one mile maiden special weight. She’ll again be ridden by Rafael Bejarano.

Second, beaten a half length by She’s Complete in the Juvenile Turf Sept. 1, trainer Adam Kitchingman’s Sea Mona will be ridden for the first time by newly minted Hall of Famer Alex Solis, who will try to ration her speed in the rematch. Ridden last out by the recently suspended Victor Espinoza, she was keen early and opened up a 2 ½ length advantage with a quarter mile to run, but tired late.

An impressive first-out maiden special weight winner going six furlongs on Aug. 24, trainer Jim Cassidy’s Into Oblivion came back to run second, beaten a neck at 1-5, in the 6 ½ furlong Barretts Debutante on Sept. 13. The daughter of Into Mischief drew the rail Sunday and will try grass and a route of ground for the first time. She’ll be reunited with Mike Smith, who was aboard for the maiden score.

Trainer John Sadler’s Call to Congrats exits an impressive 5 ½ furlong maiden special weight win from the rail on Aug. 30 and will also be routing on turf for the first time. Ridden by Bejarano in the maiden win, she’ll be handled for the first time by Tyler Baze in the Surfer Girl, which will be her third start.

Irish-bred Bobbi Grace will make her U.S. debut for trainer Tom Proctor in the Surfer Girl and appears to be training well following a 4 ¼ length maiden win going six furlongs on turf in mixed company July 11 in Ireland. She has four works on her tab dating back to Aug. 25 at Del Mar, her most recent a six furlong drill at Santa Anita on Sept. 27 in 1:14.20.

The complete field for the Surfer Girl Stakes, to be run as the eighth race on a nine-race program Sunday, with jockeys in post position order. All horses, with the exception of She’s Complete, assigned 117 pounds: Into Oblivion, Mike Smith; Devil’s Beauty, William Antongeorgi; Sea Mona, Alex Solis; Holiday Maker, Edwin Maldonado; Her Emmynency, Joe Talamo; She’s Complete, 121; Rafael Bejarano; Heart of Paradise, Mario Gutierrez; Call to Congrats, Tyler Baze; Elementar, Tiago Pereira; Shezapiranha, Alonso Quinonez; Bobbi Grace, Drayden Van Dyke, and Achiever’s Legacy, Elvis Trujillo.
