PICK SIX CARRYOVER OF $230,886 AWAITS FANS ON SATURDAY, TOTAL PICK SIX POOL PROJECTED TO APPROACH $1 MILLION
ARCADIA, Calif. (June 16, 2017)–Idle since Nov. 4, Mr. Roary went to the lead and never looked back under Santiago Gonzalez as he took Friday’s $58,000 Santa Anita allowance feature by three quarters of a length. Conditioned by George Papaprodromou, Mr. Roary got a mile and a quarter on turf in 1:59.53.
Off at 8-1 in a field of eight 3-year-olds and up, Mr. Roary paid $18.80, $10.60 and $7.00.
Bred in Kentucky, the 4-year-old chestnut gelding by Scat Daddy, out of the Seattle Slew mare If Angels Sang, improved his overall record to 15-3-2-1. Owned by Kretz Racing, LLC, Mr. Roary banked $34,800 for the win, increasing his bankroll to $152,965.
“We’re gonna have a lot fun with this horse this summer!” exclaimed Papaprodromou. “We’ll run him a mile and a quarter again at Del Mar and if he runs well, we’ll think about the Breeders’ Cup. He’s got a nice, long stride and I thought he could make the lead today and maybe put them to sleep.”
Although the winner was content to show the way out front, the second and third place finishers, Irish-breds Newsman and Oscar Dominguez, both rallied from off the pace.
Ridden by Flavien Prat, Newsman, who finished 1 ½ lengths in front of Oscar Dominguez, was off at 7-2 and paid $5.60 and $4.20.
Oscar Dominguez, with comebacking Drayden Van Dyke up, was off at 7-1 and paid $4.80 while finishing three quarters of a length in front of Curlin Road.
Fractions on the race were 24.01, 48.33, 1:11.82 and 1:35.55.
First post time for a 10-race card on Saturday, which will be graced by a two-day Pick Six carryover of $230,886, is set for 1 p.m. Track officials project Saturday’s total Pick Six pool should approach $1 million.
