ARCADIA, Calif. (May 18, 2018)–Well beaten in the Grade I Santa Anita Oaks April 7, Reddam Racing’s Fool’s Paradise took no prisoners on Friday at Santa Anita, as she was a galloping 5 ¼ length winner of the track’s $56,000 allowance feature under Mario Gutierrez. Trained by Ben Cecil, the Kentucky-bred daughter of Pioneerof the Nile got one mile in 1:39.68
“She’s starting to calm down a bit now,” said Cecil. “Today, she was great in the paddock and on the track. She’s improving and she’ll need to keep improving to be stakes caliber.”
Breaking from the rail in a field of six fillies and mares three and up, Fool’s Paradise was head and head for the lead around the Club House turn inside a four-horse spread consisting of Demigoddess, Beautiful Princess and Mapit. Fool’s Paradise took command by a half length three furlongs from home and widened through the lane while in-hand at the wire.
Fifth, beaten 15 lengths by Midnight Bisou in the Santa Anita Oaks, Fool’s Paradise was a maiden special weight winner going a mile and one sixteenth two starts back on March 23. Off as the 2-1 favorite, she paid $6.00, $3.60 and $2.80.
With the winner’s share of $33,600, she now has earnings of $74,690 from an overall mark of 5-2-0-0.
The longest shot in the field at 15-1, Demigoddess proved stubborn throughout and was second-best on the day, finishing 4 ¾ lengths in front of Beautiful Princess. Ridden by Tiago Pereira, Demigoddess paid $10.60 and $5.20.
Ridden by Flavien Prat, Beautiful Princess, who had been on turf for her last three starts, finished third, one length in front of Bella Filomena. Off at 3-1, Beautiful Princess paid $3.20 to show.
Fractions on the race were 23.75, 47.79, 1:12.93 and 1:26.15.
