For 31st World Championships the prestigious international horse racing event integrates a real time social media stream to further engage fans
New York, NY. (October 29, 2014) – The Breeders’ Cup announced today that for the first-time ever in Breeders’ Cup history it will be integrating a live social media stream in its real time video coverage during the 2014 World Championships, taking place October 31 and November 1. The social media activation will feature two custom hashtags and take the shape of a highly engaging Social Media Wall to be integrated into the Players’ Show as well as dedicated televisions throughout Santa Anita.
Designed to further engage attendees as the bell clangs and the gates fly open, the Social Media Wall will consistently display tweets, Instagram photos and Facebook posts as the races unfold each day. The event’s massive Jumbotron will also be showcasing an array of these posts in 15 second spots every hour. All fans must do is incorporate one of the two official hashtags, #BreedersCup and #BC14, when uploading their pictures, posts and tweets. By doing this they will have the opportunity to see their personal posts displayed on the Social Media Wall, Jumbotron and select monitors throughout the World Championships.
“The Social Media Wall is a really fun and exciting part of this year’s World Championships,” said Peter Rotondo, Vice President of Media and Entertainment for the Breeders’ Cup. “Instagram, Facebook and Twitter have become primary modes of communication as well as powerful sharing tools in recent years and so engaging with our fans, and allowing them to engage with each other, through these platforms is essential. The Social Media Wall will also add a colorful layer to the two-day event and allow it to more personally resonate with each fan and attendee.”
The Breeders’ Cup World Championships is one of thoroughbred racing’s most prestigious international events, consisting of 13 grade one races and purses and awards totaling $26 million. The event will take place at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, CA and will be televised live on NBC and NBCSN.
