ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 29, 2016)–Lightly raced Behest got clear sailing and made short work of eight rivals in taking Friday’s $58,000 allowance feature by 1 ¾ lengths under Drayden Van Dyke. Breaking from post position eight in a field of nine older fillies and mares bred in California, Behest sat a close fourth, two lengths off the lead past the half mile pole and took command three sixteenths out as she cruised 6 ½ furlongs down Santa Anita’s hillside turf course in 1:14.02.
Trained by Phil D’Amato and owned by Bartlett Jr., or Hinds, Behest was off at 8-1 and paid $18.20, $8.00 and $4.60. A 4-year-old filly by Kentucky-based Fusaichi Pegasus, she picked up her third win from four starts. With the winner’s share of $34,800, she increased her earnings to $70,080.
Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Q’Viva rallied wide-out and was second best. Off at 7-2, she paid $5.40 and $3.20.
Favored Warrenscrystalized pressed the pace and made the lead at the rail crossing back onto the grass at the top of the lane but tired to finish third, 1 ¾ lengths behind Q’Viva. Off at 2-1, Warrenscrystalized paid $3.00 to show.
Fractions on the race were 21.43, 43.95 and 1:07.64.
