AVENGE, CURLIN’S FOX & LONG HOT SUMMER HEAD COMPETITIVE FIELD OF NINE IN SATURDAY’S GRADE III, $100,000 SENORITA STAKES AT A MILE ON TURF

 

ARCADIA, Calif. (June 24, 2015) – Avenge, Curlin’s Fox and Long Hot Summer head a competitive field of nine in Saturday’s Grade III, $100,000 Senorita Stakes for three year old fillies going a mile on the turf.

Trained by Richard Mandella, Avenge will attempt to make it four in-a-row Saturday as she stretches out for the first time in her six race career. The War Front filly out of Lerici has won three consecutive downhill turf races, her most recent win in the Ultrafleet Stakes on May 1 which was her first stakes victory.

Owned by Ramona Bass, Avenge is 6-3-0-1 overall with earnings of $126,580 and will retain the services of Flavien Prat, who is currently riding at a 23% win percentage when paired with Richard Mandella including seven wins and 11 seconds during this Spring Meeting.

A distant fourth in her only attempt at natural dirt in the Grade I Santa Anita Oaks April 5, Curlin’s Fox returned to turf in her most recent outing winning a 6 ½ furlong allowance hillside turf race on May 25. After breaking her maiden on Feb. 1 in a 6 ½ furlong downhill turf maiden special weight in which she was favored, Curlin’s Fox went on to be second in the one mile turf China Doll Stakes before attempting the Santa Anita Oaks.

The three year old Curlin filly is Trained by Carla Gaines and owned by Warren Williamson. Curlin’s Fox is 4-2-1-0 overall with earnings of $107,880.

Long Hot Summer, three for five overall with her only out of the money finish coming on natural dirt in the six furlong Evening Jewel Stakes April 4, will try the Senorita distance for the first time Saturday. Trained by Phil D’Amato and owned by Anthony Fanticola and Joseph Scardino, the Street Boss filly out of Hotlantic comes off a win in an 6 ½ furlong allowance race down the hill June 12.
