APTLY NAMED SHOW STEALER UPSETS FAVORED TWO TAPS TO TAKE $60,000 SANTA ANITA ALLOWANCE FEATURE BY A HEAD; BAZE & SHERMAN TEAM FOR 1 1/16 MILES WIN IN 1:44.01

PICK SIX CARRYOVER OF $36,151 INTO FRIDAY, TOTAL PICK SIX POOL SHOULD APPROACH $250,000

ARCADIA, Calif. (May 26, 2016)–Idle since Feb. 25, aptly named Show Stealer overhauled heavily favored Two Taps in deep stretch to take Thursday’s $60,000 allowance feature at Santa Anita by a head under Tyler Baze. Trained by Art Sherman and owned by her breeder, George Krikorian, Show Stealer got a mile and a sixteenth in 1:44.01.

Fourth turning for home in a field of five fillies and mares aged three and up, Show Stealer swooped four-wide outside of pacesetter Big Break and Two Taps a furlong out and gradually gained the advantage the final sixteenth of a mile.

Off at 5-1, Show Stealer paid $12.80, $3.20 and $2.60. A 4-year-old Kentucky-bred filly by Eskendereya, Show Stealer is out of Krikorian’s Carson City mare, The Green Owl. Headquartered with Sherman at Los Alamitos, she improved her overall record to 17-3-2-2 and with the winner’s share of $36,000, increased her earnings to $155,760.

“She’s a cool filly, one of those that tries real hard,” said Sherman. “She gets a check just about every time. There’s a chance we could run her back before the end of the meet (July 10).”

An impressive first condition allowance winner at the distance here on March 5, Two Taps was attentive to the pace and appeared to be in a good striking position, third, going into the far turn. She overtook Big Break leaving the furlong pole, but was outrun late, finishing second, 2 ¼ lengths in front of Big Break.

Ridden by Mike Smith, Two Taps was off at 3-5 and paid $2.20 and $2.10.

Big Break, who was ridden by Edwin Maldonado, set fractions of 23.72, 47.35, 1:11.39 and 1:37.33. Off at 12-1, she paid $3.00 to show.

There is a Pick Six carryover of $36,151 into Friday at Santa Anita. The Pick Six will be comprised of races three through eight and it’s expected Friday’s total Pick Six pool should approach $250,000.

First post time for an eight-race card on Friday is at 2 p.m. Admission gates open at 11:30 a.m.
