#9 is Vivo Per Lei and #3 is Stormy Lucy, and both have outside shots at winning this race, warranting inclusion on some pick 3 or 4 tickets played.
Marketing Mix is a legitimate favorite in this event, having won 7 of 14 this year and last and having earned $1.1 million. She won the Grade 2 Dance Smartly and Grade 2 Nassau in succession this summer before a narrow defeat by a head in the Grade 1 Beverly D, earning a career best 113 figure with that effort, and she’s won at this 10 furlong turf trip, something only three others in the field of 13 can claim they’ve done. As such, and with just a repeat of that big effort last month good enough to win, Marketing Mix gets top billing.
Next best is City to City, who won the Grade 2 John C. Mabee Stakes one before last before settling for 2nd in the Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon. She’s won 3 times in her career on the Santa Anita turf, which could be an edge over Marketing Mix, who is starting on this course for the 1st time, and with 108 and 110 figures in her last two efforts putting her within a length of the 113 figure effort the top pick earned recently, City to City must be given due consideration as a legitimate contender in this race.
Let’s Go Cheyenne is the one that the other contenders have to catch to win, coming off a career best effort in a non-graded stakes on the grass at Del Mar. That win, on 8/24 at 11 furlongs, means that she might be even stronger running an eighth of a mile less today, and having won three of her last five, missing by a neck in one of the other two, all while leading from the start, Let’s Go Cheyenne could pose an elusive target today if allowed any kind of edge in the early stages as she was last month.
