Handicapping Picks for 09/28/2012

Race #8 - Rating = 2
#13 Unbridled's Note - Fair odds 2/1
#6 Comma to the Top - Fair odds 2/1
#9 Red Sun - Fair odds 2/1

If you want to go deeper, particularly for pick 3 and 4 tickets, then also consider #3 Calimonco and #10 Tale of a Champion

Unbridled’s Note gets preference here in a very deep field by virtue of having run against the best of any of these recently, missing the win by just a nose and a half-length in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes at Saratoga last month, with traffic trouble (boxed in) at a critical stage of the race as well, before that finishing 3rd in the Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes, also at Saratoga, with back-to-back 115 Equibase Speed Figures that mean although the other contenders have form and class on their sides as well they will need to step up if they want to beat him today, particularly as he draws the best post for this downhill turf trip, the extreme outside.

Comma to the Top just won the restricted Pirate’s Bounty Stakes, with a fine 108 figure, the gelding having won on turf going short before and capable of a big effort with Pedroza riding back. With 9 wins in 21 career races and having run well versus top company too recently when 4th in the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes, Comma to the Top is definitely worthy of respect when considering our wagers involving this race

Red Sun has had his physical problems, hence having run only 9 times although a six year old, but when he’s sound he can compete with top company. He returned from a year on the bench on 8/30 and missed by a half-length at a mile and one-sixteenth on turf so on the cut back to a sprint could run even better, adding to his excellent career record of 5-2-2 in 9 races.
