Handicapping Picks for 04/12/2012

Race #7 - Rating = 2
#6 Ransom Canyon - Fair odds 2/1
#2 Achilles - Fair odds 5/2

Exactas: 2,6 over 1,2,4,6 (1 is Trucial State, 4 is War Politics)

Ransom Canyon won his debut in February at a mile on turf, no easy task whatsoever, in a field of 10, then missed 2nd by a nose and a neck and missed the win by ¾ of a length last out at this level in only his 2nd career start, going from an 85 Equibase Speed Figure to a 95 figure. A perfect fit at this first allowance condition and with a very sharp 2nd best of 68 five furlong workout as his most recent coming into the race and with the winner of that last race having come back to finish 4th in last Saturday’s Illinois Derby, Ransom Canyon could be pretty tough to beat. Achilles won at a mile on turf in his debut as well, same as the top pick, his only start, with Talamo up then as now and with a 98 figure that could easily be improved upon with the experience of a race under his belt, making him the other horse with the bulk of the probability to win this race.
