Bauble Queen gets slight preference among 4 very evenly matched gals, ALL winners at this Grade 2 level previously, but this filly (according to my calculations) having run the last 1/8 of a mile when winning the Frankel Stakes in January in a sizzling 10.2 seconds. Rested since then and already a winner at this 9 furlong trip on this course, Bauble Queen appears to be the one to beat today. Strawberrydaiquiri was coming back from 4 months off in the similar Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes last month so was a bit short of 100% for her best, evidenced by her rallying from 3rd to lead in the stretch only to be swallowed up late, finishing 4th but just a length from the winner. She won a Group 3 race in England earlier in her career at this distance, that group 3 equivalent to our grade 2 (possibly a grade 1), and she won a group 2 race as well at Ascot, so likely to be stronger 2nd off the layoff she’s got a fine shot of earning her first U.S. stakes victory. City to City won the Buena Vista with a nice rally to get up by a head at a mile and she’s won at 9 furlongs so figures tough once again, while Cambina has put in four poorer efforts since winning the G1 American Oaks last July versus 3 year olds only, but having missed by just a length in the Buena Vista and with Gomez up for her Grade 2 Providencia Stakes win at this distance on this course last April and getting back on today, she rounds out our quartet of horses who should have a say in the outcome of this race.
