Handicapping Picks for 03/24/2012

Race #8 - Rating = 3
#7 Coluda - Fair odds 2/1
#5 Dhaamer - Fair odds 3/1
#6 Eldaafer - Fair odds 3/1

Exacta: Box 5,6,7

Coluda is one of two in here from the Mitchell barn, the other Dhaamer, but Coluda has a big edge I the pace department as he appears to be the only horse who likes to lead early, a style which can be deadly at this 12 furlong trip. Mitchell is an expert at training his horses to relax and win marathons (Star over the Bay just one example) and coming off a wire-to-wire win 2nd off the Mitchell claim and with apprentice Flores riding Coluda is likely to prove an elusive target from start to finish today. Dhaamer could get up if the top pick can’t go all the way, this gelding adding lasix for the 1st time as he makes his U.S. debut, the distance no problem as he’s bred to run all day and has won at 10 furlongs before. With a good work pattern for his U.S. debut and Bejarano riding he could run very well. Eldaafer won the BC Marathon back in the fall of 2010 but has only won a couple of cheaper races since. However, making his 2nd start off a rest and stretching out back to his best distance, he has potential to run competitively and must be considered when making wagers involving this race.
