Pressday was a multiple graded (group) stakes winner in Australia brought to the U.S. because he bled in his last race Down Under, in September, 2011 necessitating a three month ban and possible permanent ban if he bled again. He was supposed to be retired, but instead he was privately purchased and shipped to the Sadler barn at the end of December, likely working on Lasix, his second work back was a phenomenal 58 flat for five furlongs on the turf around the cones (longer than 5f), signaling this 5 year old with nearly ¾ of a million in earnings is ready to rumble, getting Rosario and a great outside post for this downhill trip and making him very tough to beat against much weaker foes than he’s faced in ages today. Sadler also saddles Carbonite and if we bet one of John’s horses we should bet on the other as well, this one coming off a game win by a nose at this 6 ½ furlong downhill turf trip on 1/14, his first race for Sadler after changing trainers and with Espinoza up then as now. The gelding loves to win, 9 for 19 in his career, and has won back-to-back before, like his stablemate also with a strong workout recently signaling he’s got a big shot to run well again, his ONLY knock that his stablemate Pressday has a big class edge.
Al Instante is another “WIN” type, 7 for 14 in his career, including a win down the hill last fall on 10/22 before a poor effort in a flat turf sprint at HOL in a stakes. Back at the trip of his last win, having won off a short layoff last August, he could have a say in the outcome as well. Leroy’s Dynameaux rallied from last of 10 and far back to get the lead by a head late and then came up a nose short on the wire in a tough defeat on 1/14 at a mile in a stakes race at Turf Paradise on the grass. He’s won at this downhill trip and won with Bejarano in the saddle, Rafael getting back on today to help him run another “A” race to be competitive down to the wire once more.
