Scream Queen runs first off the claim by a trainer mostly unknown to Southern California racing fans, and perhaps to fans from most part of the country except around his home base at Hastings Park. Robert Gilker is a rock solid trainer who wins about 20-25% of his races, year in and year out, and as he’s an unknown I am hopeful Scream Queen will be underbet relative to other trainer’s horses such as Mitchell’s My Trickster. Scream Queen comes in to the race off a big 6 length win in a 10 horse field sprinting on 1/7 over the track, leading from start to finish so likely to be well in front from the start today and able to run a lot more slowly than she had to in that sprint in order to get a breather and win her 2nd in a row. My Trickster closed nicely for 2nd in her debut then won from off the pace in her 2nd career start, both in November, both in Florida, claimed out of that last race and moved to the Mitchell barn, getting Rosario to ride, a BIG sign she’s going to be closing strongly enough to win if the top pick can’t go all the way on the front end. Teardrops on Fire rallied for 2nd at this level last out, beaten under a length, and is another that should be coming on strongly in the last 1/8 of a mile for a piece at the very least.
