Handicapping Picks for 01/13/2012

Race #2 - Rating = 2
#5 Indigo River - Fair odds 8/5
#3 My Kentucky Rose - Fair odds 3/1
#2 Woebegon - Fair odds 3/1

Indigo River makes her U.S. debut and returns from a 3 month layoff, in an allowance field, after a 3rd place effort in a handicap, against males, facing just 4 foes where last out she faced 12. Not only is she dropping in class considerably based on the change in gender and from open company to allowance company, one before that at 7 furlongs on turf she won nicely in a field of 14, beating none other than Wrote, who beat males when winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf last fall. As such, if ready to run at all, Indigo River pretty much lays over this field. My Kentucky Rose goes for her 3rd straight win, now in the hands of hot trainer Taylor, shipping in from Illinois and cutting back in distance off a win at this level when in for the optional claiming price just as she is today. Bred to take to the turf just fine she’s got a decent shot at winning if the top pick isn’t 100% ready to run. Woebegon led from the start and settled for 2nd last out at in a race scheduled for turf but run on the main track, 6 lengths clear of the 3rd horse, and if she can clear the other “early” speed type (Lasso From El Paso) she could prove tough to catch to rounds out our trio of contenders.
