Handicapping Picks for 01/07/2012

Race #5 - Rating = 3
#9 Bonita Star - Fair odds 2/1
#6 Brown is Beige - Fair odds 2/1
#4 Nice Meidel - Fair odds 3/1

Exacta: Box 4,6,9

Combined, these three fillies had 10 wins, 6 runner-up finishes, and 3 third place finishes in 27 starts in 2011 and their first efforts of 2012 should be fine as well. Bonita Star has won 2 of 4 since joining the Mitchell Barn and cuts back from a route to a sprint after a 3rd place effort versus slightly tougher at 9 furlongs on grass, notably taking a hidden class drop from 3 year olds and upward to just 4 year olds only, having earned both of her recent wins versus her own age group as well. Brown is Beige SCRATCHED on Friday to run in this spot, having just won when last seen on 11/20, versus older horses on the main track but in a race scheduled for turf. She’s won 2 of 4 on turf in her career including a sprint in May and should have a big say in the outcome in her current form. Nice Meidel won by a nose last out in a turf sprint at HOL and was claimed out of that race by good trainer Diodoro so her top form should continue particularly as Talamo was up for her last 2 wins and rides her again today.
