Handicapping Picks for 10/16/2011
Race #8 - Rating = 2
#7 Entrustment - Fair odds 5/2
#1 Bauble Queen - Fair odds 5/2
#10 Up In Time - Fair odds 3/1
Entrustment is one of three fillies in this race that faced some of the best 3 year old turf horses in the country last month in the Del Mar Oaks, with the top three finishers invited to compete in the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth Challenge Cup Invitational at Keeneland on Saturday. Entrustment rallied a bit to end up 6th and beaten 4 lengths, before that missing by three heads on the wire in a four horse photo finish in the Grade 1 American Oaks, in which two of the top 3 Del Mar Oaks finishers participated. Facing much easier today and having run 2nd at this mile trip in May in the identical Grade 3 Senorita Stakes, Entrustment could be the one to beat in this year’s Ramser Stakes.
Bauble Queen gets the ground saving rail following a big effort when rallying from last (after breaking slowly) to get 2nd, beaten under a length, in the similar Sandy Blue Handicap at Del Mar. She won her only other turf route, right before that, and with the horse she beat for 2nd in the Sandy Blue having come right back to win her next start, Bauble Queen may be capable of taking another step forward to win her first graded stakes race today.
Up In Time finished 7th in the Del Mar Oaks and just a half length behind Entrustment, right before that winning the Grade 2 San Clemente Handicap at hits mile trip. The 10 post isn’t the best at a mile on turf so she may have to fall way back and try to circle the field or may have to use up some energy to get mid-pack position early and hope that doesn’t cost her late, but other than the post she has few knocks and should be a factor.
