#2 Te Rapa - Fair odds 5/2
Exacta: Box 2,7,8
Memen was only beaten 2 ¾ lengths though 6th of 10 last out at this mile turf trip, as the 7/5 favorite, and as she was claimed by a veteran trainer in Palma, one who is red hot (3 for 7 at the meeting to date) and who has been awesome off the claim in the past year with a 8 for 24 record she could move up nicely and win, particularly if she runs as she did one before the claim when leading late and missing by a length in a little 54K stakes on the turf at Santa Rosa.
Nahem was claimed one before last by O’Neill then put in the Pomona Derby, running poorly on the main track. Back on turf where he won in March here at SA and back at the level of the claim when beaten just a half length he’s got a fine shot to be competitive to the wire.
Te Rapa goes for his 3rd straight win, the most recent at this mile turf trip in his first try on grass. He fits well and with Talamo up for both wins and in the saddle again today he rounds out a strong trio of contenders in this situation.
