Santa Anita News
The inaugural Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge will be held at Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita Park on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7. This is your chance to take on the top players in this real money Handicapping Tournament. The buy-in will be $10,000. Of the initial $10,000 bankroll, $2,500 is applied towards the prize money pool and $7,500 is for betting. At the conclusion of the tournament, any dollar amount remaining in the bankroll – whether it grows to $30,000 or falls to $100 – remains the property of the player. This is a contest of skill to determine the "Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge” champion.
The BC Betting Challenge will also offer players the opportunity to qualify for the 2010 DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship. The top six players will be awarded spots in the NHC, to be held at the Red Rocks Casino in Las Vegas on January 29-30, 2010. Each NHC qualifier will also earn $1,000 towards their hotel/travel expenses for Las Vegas. The event is also part of the NHC Tour and contestants will earn Tour points.
The event will be part of the Breeders’ Cup Simulcast Show, which is broadcast in over 20 countries and at over 1,500 wagering outlets in North America. ESPN will highlight coverage during their Friday and Saturday telecasts. We will also provide players with a number of additional benefits including: ticket for the two-day Championships; a private, players-only room on-track with buffet each day; ticket to Breeders’ Cup events like the VIP media party, press conferences, hospitality rooms; reduced hotel rates; Steuben trophy and other items.
A non-refundable deposit of $500 is required to confirm your spot in the BC Challenge. The $500 deposit will be credited as part of your bankroll. With only 100 entries available, it is recommended to send your deposit early. The remainder of the $10,000 bankroll is due by November 1, 2009. Again, the first 100 deposits received by Oak Tree will determine who plays in the Tournament. Two entries per person maximum.
The prize money is to be determined by the final number of entries. One hundred percent of all prize pool funds ($2,500 per player) will be awarded as prize money, plus a minimum of $25,000 in additional funds, provided by the event. Based upon 50 players, prize money will be $150,000. Oak Tree and Breeders’ Cup are seeking to secure additional prize money via sponsorships and other sources. With 100 players, the first ten finishers will be paid prize money:
Tournament races will include only races from Oak Tree at Santa Anita Park on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7, 2009, including all fourteen Breeders’ Cup Championships races. Wager types to be permitted are Win, Place, Show, Exacta and Trifecta. No bets on Superfecta, Super High-5 and multi-race bets. A minimum of $600 must be bet on at least 5 races Friday, November 6, totaling a minimum of $3,000 wagered (the last eligible race on Friday is the Ladies Classic, race 8).
A minimum of $900 must be bet on at least 5 races Saturday, November 7, totaling a minimum of $4,500 wagered. The final race of the event is the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Should a player fail to bet the required minimum number of races or minimum bet total on Saturday’s card, you will be disqualified and any remaining balance will be returned to the player. There are no maximums – players may bet as much as they want and go “all in”, including winnings from their original bankroll, whenever they wish. The player with the largest bankroll after the Classic on Saturday is the Grand Prize winner.
